This post explains the simple preparation of pepper jeera powder. This powder is a versatile powder which can be used for basic rasam varieties, ven pongal or can even be mixed with hot rice. I use this for all my rasam varieties. We can also add it as a spice ingredient for pasta.
Pepper Jeera Powder Recipe
Makes : approximately 1 cup
Ingredients
- Black pepper - 1/4 cup
- Cumin seeds (jeera) - 1/2 cup
Method
- Take both pepper and jeera in a pan and dry roast in low to medium flame till a nice aroma arises. Don't let it to change colour.
- Allow the mixture to cool down and in a clean, dry mixie grind it to a fine powder.
- Store in an airtight container.
Notes
- I have used the ratio of 1:2 for pepper and cumin seeds. You can alter it based on the spice level required.
- Always roast in low flame as cumin seeds tend to get roasted faster.
- If handled properly with clean,dry spoon, this powder stays good for at least a month.
